Week 2: Jan 19-24
Sent an email to my client and she responded on the 23. I am putting together the syllabus and past schedule of the course offered last fall to send her. The books for the course were also ordered by my secretary to send to her. Also looking to see if it is possible to add her to the past version of the course in Blackboard as a designer to see what has also been done. I am also checking to see if the course is changing names and objectives.
Week 3: Jan 25-31
Jan-27
Sent the syllabus and schedule from the FALL 08 game story class to client. Also ordered Captivate to use for this course. Want to try some new stuff and thought maybe captivate, mixed with flash, might prove interesting. Haven't used it, but figured it would look good on a resume if I knew it. Looking forward to using it though. It looks pretty crack-a-lackin.
Jan-28
Included client as designer on previous course taught in the Fall of 2008. We are trying to see if district will give us access to Angel ahead of time or at least to find out what will transfer from Blackboard to Angel. Also trying to find out what features will be included to help with the lesson planning. Client received the syllabus and schedule, she is just waiting on the books. She also mentioned that her school uses Captivate allowing me to work in Captivate and her being able to edit her files.
Jan-29
Adobe Captivate came in. Suhweet! Still need to plan out a rough schedule for the course and objectives. Most of the talk has been preliminary as I've been waiting on her to get the books. Will make a rough schedule and objective list before week is over with.
Week 4: Feb 1-8
Feb 4
Emailed client to see if she had received her books yet. I can build a course based on previous material, but am trying to get new feedack and new eyes on it. I want to build the course she wants to use. I created a new template in Blackboard to start from scratch, but was not able to add her. I emailed the helpdesk for a solution. Put the email in to District asking about Angel, still waiting to see if they will give us a template to start building there. Also added the client to the wiki for the gaming course so we can communicate that way in our ideas.
To help get the ball rolling I emailed her the following questions to answer:
Decide if you want to use both books or just one.
Do you want to divide learning modules based upon weeks or by content?
What are some goals or objectives you would like to see for the course/students?
What type of Assignments?
What type of information do you want to give students and how do you want that info to be delivered? (via html, flash, captivate, presentation, audio, etc...)
We had already done some preliminary discussions about what we would like to see for the course, just want to get it written down.
Feb 5
Client did not receive books yet so I asked my secretary to look into it. The publisher says she should have it soon. Was able to add client on as a designer to the template in blackboard we will be using. She sent me a Quality Matters rubric which they use to evaluate courses for redevelopment, which is really cool. We will use it to go through the supplemental course that had been set up for the traditional class. I asked permission to share the rubric with the class. Just waiting for it. We have decided to break down the course into weekly modules. The client who is a DL instructor feels it will serve best for the online environment. I am hoping she will have the books next week so she can at least begin to review and we can discuss how to break the book(s) up into the weekly modules.
Week 5: Feb 9-15
Feb 12
aClient emailed me back saying that she has received the books and has started reading them. I am hoping we can get a breakdown of whether or not she is going to use both books and the breakdown of the chapters into weeks so we can start building the individual modules. We also found out that we will not be migrating to Angel in the Fall, so we can continue to work with Blackboard Vista.
Week 6: Feb 16-23
Feb 16
Client has been reading the books and it looks as though we should have a schedule for course content this week. Today's email was mainly asking me questions about previous assignments and things associated with the way I taught the course. I gave her my requirements for the course based on the needs I have in my advanced classes. Again, I think we will have a course content schedule and something to start working on this week.
Feb 19
Responded to Client's email from the 18th about a few more specifics as far as what was needed to be produced by the end of the semester for the class she is building. She stated that she will be working on a calendar this weekend, and I am hoping to have my first assignment to start building come beginning of next week.
Week 7: Feb 24-Mar 1
Feb 27
Client planned the first two weeks of the course and asked me to come up with a way to illustrate the following URL idea for stories, but for games.
http://www.cod.edu/people/faculty/pruter/film/threeact.htm
I have found a couple of links that describe how the "hollywood 3-act" fits into games and will create an animated flash file to serve as a reference for this module. I plan on starting this week and hope to have something to be reviewed by the client at the end of week 8.
